In a landslide result, Péter Magyar of the Tisza party won the election. Also right wing, Magyar and his party aim to bring the country closer to Europe and distance it from Russia, and Vladimir Putin.
With a record turnout to elections, it is now time for Orbán and his allies to try to understand how their party lost the election – despite a visit from US vice president JD Vance to urge Hungarians to support Orbán.
