The 22nd Amendment states clearly that no one can be the US president for more than two terms, but Trump has toyed with the idea in public, telling journalists in October 2025 that "we'll see what happens".

"Based on what I read, I guess I'm not allowed to run," he told reporters on Air Force One.

"I'm not allowed to run, it's too bad."

Lewis Goodall said at the time that media speculation over a third term almost "legitimises" the possibility of a third Trump term, despite it violating the 22nd amendment.

Now, however, it seems that Trump's Republicans are also in on the act, with members of his MAGA government refusing to whether Trump was planning to run for a third term while under oath.

Is this really where we are now?
