He might not just win, or win narrowly. Could we see a more powerful Donald Trump than ever come November?

In brief…

  • Donald Trump is polling ahead of Joe Biden in several key swing states
  • The former president is also closing in on Biden in Democrat strongholds too, which could lead to a major Republican victory
  • This could give Trump powers even greater than he had after his 2016 election win, the News Agents say.

Gaffe after gaffe. An assassination attempt. An 81-year-old Democrat nominee. All things that could determine who becomes the next president of the US.

And, according to some polls, the contest won’t be a tight one.

While Joe Biden had the edge over Donald Trump in 2020, despite the Republican claiming a stolen election, this time the result may not be so easy to dispute.

But the issue for Biden is, it could be the other way around this year.

What do the polls say?

While previous polls have suggested the contest could be tight, recent surveys have indicated that Trump could win in states long held by the Democrats.

In fact, Trump was ahead in a YouGov poll - taken before the attempt on Trump’s life - in at least seven swing states.

Biden won six of these seven states in 2020. He must win at least three this year if he is to remain in the White House come November 2024.

But this was not the only damaging poll for Biden.

Lewis Goodall says: “There was a poll the other day that showed that Biden was ahead by only two points in Virginia.

“There was a poll that showed that Biden was ahead by only two and eight in New York.”

Virginia has been Democrat since 2008, but New York has been Democrat since 1972, he points out.

Lewis adds: "This is an absolute Democrat bastion. I think what the party is waking up to, and what it is trying to impress upon Biden, is not just that Trump might win, or win narrowly, but it could be a blowout. It could be a landslide”

What would this mean?

Well in terms of Trump’s power, it would be “way augmented and way enhanced compared to 2016”, says Lewis.

It comes after some of the pressure on Biden, about his age and fitness to stand as the Democrat presidential candidate, was reduced after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

All eyes turned to Trump as he headed to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee - which Goddall says has run smoothly - just hours after a bullet skimmed his ear.

But now, it appears the heat is back on.

Goodall adds: “Virtually every interview Biden does now is making the problem worse.”
